TCOM 313 WORKING IN THE LINUX SHELL ENVIRONMENT (1.5)
One
and a half lecture hours per week
Course Prerequisites: Recommended completion of COMP/TCOM 312 or equivalent
experience using a Linux desktop system.
Do you want
to understand and use the unique power available to Linux and Unix shell
users? This class prepares you for intermediate and advanced Linux system
and network administration? This hands-on course sets you on the path
to becoming an accomplished Linux shell (command line) user.
TCOM 314 MANAGING A LINUX SYSTEM (1.5)
One
and a half lecture hours per week
Prerequisites:
COMP/TCOM 312 or equivalent experience installing and using a Linux system
Grade option, may be repeated for credit once
You've installed Linux on a PC, but now face larger challenges. Do you
need to … Manage a Linux server? Install numerous Linux desktops?
Boot multiple operating systems? Install binary and/or source-code software
from the open-source community? This hands-on course builds on your basic
Linux installation skills, adding experience in selected key areas of
managing Linux systems.
TCOM 315 MANAGING LINUX-BASED INTERNET SERVICES (3)
Three
lecture hours per week
Prereq: Completion
of TCOM 314 with a grade of C or better or equivalent experience installing
and managing a Linux system and TCOM 480 or equivalent experience using
local area networks.
Recommended: TCOM/COMP 312 or equivalent experience using the Linux bash-shell.

Open-source software provides a complete set of Internet services? This
course provides a hands-on survey of open-source software to manage DNS
(BIND), host web sites (Apache), provide secure connections (OpenSSL),
provide remote access (OpenSSH), host email (sendmail) and databases (MySQL).

TCOM 316 MANAGING LINUX-BASED INTRANET SERVICES (3)
Three
lecture hours per week
Prereq: Completion
of TCOM 314 with a grade of C or better or equivalent experience installing
and managing a Linux system and TCOM 480 or equivalent experience using
local area networks.
Recommended: TCOM/COMP 312 or equivalent experience using the Linux bash-shell.
Linux systems are a robust platform for services within a company Intra-net.
This course provides a hands-on survey of open-source software to manage
private DNS, provice dynamic IP addressing, provide file sharing (NFS
and SAMBA), manage centralized log-in (NIS or LDAP), provide proxy and
security services and manage large numbers of deployed Linux client systems.
