UC Information Page
What:
The University
of California (UC) System consists of 10 campuses which grant bachelors,
masters, and doctorate degrees. (Note: UC San Francisco, UCSF, offers
only graduate health professional programs.) The UC System is world
renowned for its academic excellence and research emphasis. However,
the UC System gives the highest priority for transfer admissions
to community college transfer students. UC campuses accept only
full-time day students at the undergraduate level-no part-time enrollment
or evening classes are available. All campuses except UC Berkeley,
operate on the quarter system. Three quarters: fall, winter, and
spring, make up the regular academic year.
How:
UC basically only
accepts transfer students as a junior level with a minimum of 60
UC transferable units completed prior to transfer. Note: UC Berkeley,
UC Davis (effective Fall 2006), UC San Diego, UCLA, UC Merced, UC
Riverside, and UC Santa Barbara require the 60 units be completed
by the Spring prior to Fall admission. See the list of courses
transferable to UC. Transfer students should complete IGETC,
if applicable. See campus specific general education requirements
in the Transfer Center. Students transferring to the UC System must
complete the following requirements prior to transfer. Among the
transferable courses the student must pass with a grade of C or
better must be:
Two courses (3 semester
units or 4-5 quarter units each) English composition, AND
One course (3 semester
units or 4-5 quarter units) mathematics or mathematical statistics,
AND Four
additional courses (3 semester units or 4-5 quarter units each) chosen
from at least two of the following subject areas: the Arts and Humanities,
the Social and Behavioral Sciences, and the Physical and Biological
Sciences. Some
campuses will not allow these requirements in summer prior to fall
enrollment. Consult a counselor. Students
should also complete lower-division major requirements for their specific
major prior to transfer. The minimum grade point average(GPA) used
to select transfer students for admission depends on campus and major
desired.
Guaranteed
Transfer Agreement:
Skyline College is
fortunate to have guaranteed transfer
admission agreements (TAA's) with UC Davis, UC Santa Cruz, UC
Riverside, and (new) UC Santa Barbara. Students completing Skyline's
Honors Transfer Program may qualify for
Transfer Admissions Priority (TAP) with UCLA. These contacts enable
qualified students to be guaranteed admission one year prior to transfer.
Skyline students are encouraged to take advantage of these agreements,
and to meet with a counselor as soon as possible to determine eligibility
and do transfer planning.
Cost:
UCs are public universities
and at present cost approximately $6,000.00 per year for California
residents. Financial aid is available for qualified applicants. Contact
the Financial Aid Offices at the UC campuses in which you are interested
and consult with the Financial Aid Office at Skyline.
When:
The UC System has
a one-month period for filing admission applications. Fall admission
applications must be filed during the November preceding transfer.
Campuses vary as to whether they will accept Winter/Spring applications.
Consult the UC application forms and/or counselor for other quarter
of semester filing periods. UC applications are available at the Transfer
Center. Or you can apply online (UC
Pathways).
Important:
It is very important
that you meet with a Skyline counselor to design an education plan
which will map what you need to do, semester by semester, in order
to transfer successfully. The Transfer Center also offers a variety
of transfer and application workshops
and also arranges individual appointments for students with visiting
representatives from various UC campus.
